 Who is Deepak Chahar?

  • Deepak Chahar is an Indian right-arm medium pace swing bowler. He represents Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Rajasthan in domestic cricket.Mainly he is a bowling all-rounder.
  • His father Lokendra Singh Chahar has a cricket coaching academy in Uttar Pradesh, there he first started learning swing bowling.
  • He is a medium fast bowler, the average bowling speed of Deepak Chahar range between 135-140K/PH.
  • Interestingly, Chahar did not get a chance at Greg Chappell’s Rajasthan Cricket Academy in 2008. But he was not discouraged by this rejection, by improving himself through hard work he made his place in the Rajasthan Ranji team within the next two years.

Career Achievements:

  • He made history in 2019 by becoming the first male Indian cricketer to record a hat-trick in a Twenty20 International (T20I) game. He took 6 wickets for just 7 runs versus Bangladesh in a T20 match in 2020.
  • That year he was awarded the T20I Performance of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Early Life :

 In 1992, Deepak Chahar was born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Lokendra Singh Chahar, is a former Indian Air Force officer, while his mother, Pushpa Chahar, is a house wife. Bollywood film Malti Chahar is his elder sister. Deepak married his girlfriend Jaya Bharadwaj on 1st June 2022.

Cricket Career: 

Domestic Career

  •   In his first first-class game, in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy, Chahar defeated Hyderabad single handedly taking eight wickets for ten runs (8/10). Hyderabad team all out for 21, it is the lowest score in an innings in Ranji Trophy history.
  •   Chahar gave an amazing performance in his debut Ranji season. He took 30 wickets at an average of 19.63 in 6 matches for Rajasthan.
  •   Due to his extraordinary bowling skills, Rajasthan qualified for the Elite stage and later became the Ranji Trophy champion in that season. Chahar’s dominance continues at the elite stage, there he played 8 matches and took 21 wickets at an average of 37.66.

IPL Career

  •   Chahar quickly earned a youth contract with the Rising Pune Supergiants. In two seasons he played only 5 games and took 1 wicket for the Supergiants.
  •   Then he was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 IPL auction in January 2018. With 10 wickets in 12 games throughout the 2018 season, Chahar proved his potential with the ball on the greatest stage.
  •   In 2019 season Chahar took with 22 wickets at an average of 21.90 in 17 games. In UAE 2021, he took 12 wickets for Super Kings.Chennai Super Kings purchased him in the auction for 14.0 Cr INR for the 2022 Indian Premier League in February 2022.

  • But later he lost his chance to play and moves out of the competition because of a back injury.

International Career

  •    Chahar was included in the Twenty20 International (T20I) team for India’s tour of England in May 2018. On July 8, 2018, he played his first T20I match and took one wicket. In Asia Cup against Afghanistan in September 2018, he played his first One Day International match. Gulbadin Naib is his first ODI wicket.
  •    Chahar, was picked for the Indian Twenty20 team for the final match against the West Indies in 2019. He took three wickets for four runs and was named player of the match.
  •    After this sparkling performance he was included in the Indian team for the next three match T20I series versus Bangladesh.

  •    With six wickets for seven runs from 3.2 overs in the last match of that series, he established new best bowling records for men’s T20I. This is his first five-wicket haul in T20Is and the first hat-trick by an Indian bowler.

  •    Chahar recorded his first ODI half-century in July of 2021 against Srilanka. His brilliant knock of unbeaten 69 helps India to win the match. He scored another ODl half century versus South Africa in January 2022.
